Mount Explosive
We made a volcano to show chemical reactions and how they work. We put vinigar and baking soda together and it came out of our volcano as lava. We made the volcano out of chicken wire, paper mache and some paint for effect.

Name that Noun
Today in Mrs. Prior's grade 4/5 class students were playing the Name that Noun game. They must pick at catagory from a list and then they roll the letter dice to narrow down the selection of words. Such a fun way to learn our nouns.
Guided Reading- grade 1,3,4
The grade one class has the honour of hosting the grade 3,4 class four guided reading. Students from grade 3,4 read guided reading books to the grade one students. They must read them at least three times. At the start of the lesson students are reminded about our TRIBES agreements. Listening is a very active part of reading for the grade one students. Grade 3,4 must read a sentence and then their partners repeat the sentence pointing out the words that they are saying. Modeling. When they are done they are fillling out a fishbone activitiy about the story that they just finished.

Outside Volleyball
We just got our outside volleyball nets up. We are excited because everyone gets to play no matter what the age and size. It gives us more things to play at recess and lunch. Volleyball is good because it is easy and we can make the rules fair for all the ages. Grade 6 have to hit it but the grade 1 gets to catch and through.

Fire Safety Week at Riverside
Today we had Fire Fighter Cooke come to the school. We had a fire drill. During a fire drill we must line up quickly and get out of the building quickly. We must meet in a spot so the our teachers can see that everyone is out safely.
Things we must remember about fire: In the kitchen we cannot play, we cannot leave cords laying around. We must remember to have the handles towards the wall so that we do not get them stuck on us and spill the stuff in the pot. We should never have candles burning without mommy and daddy watching them. We must practice our safety drill at home as well as at school. We have to remember that during a drill we must listen to the adults.

Welcome to Strings
Students at Riverside are enjoying "The Gift of Music". This is a partnership with the Medicine Hat College Conservatory Of Music. For two hours a week students will receive music instruction on the cello, violin and viola. Our students are so excited that they are hounding Ms. Hendricks for their practice schedule. Keep watching for updates on their progress.
