What do teacher's do in their free time? Read of Course! (Love of Learning)

What are teachers at Riverside Learning about this year. Our books have arrived. Teachers will be reading these books and participating in google classroom activities. We are looking forward to the learning as well as the new ideas that we can use to help develop the three E's that Alberta Learning is working towards.

Monsters Continued ( creating learning opportunities, leadership, following directions, fine motor skills, creativity)

First we would like to thank all the parents who helped us with so many supplies for this projects. The students have come up with what they think a monster would look like, they have drawn it, wrote about it, talked about and are now starting to create it.. Here is a snapshot of what some of them are up to.

The skills that these students are learning will be with them forever: how to cut fabric (yes it is harder than paper), how do we pin the pattern on the fabric, what if I do not follow the steps- will everything go wrong? Life lessons in the making. Great work so far grade 1,5,6.

MI Afternoon- What can we learn from Literature (leadershiip, working in groups, building community)

Today was our very first MI afternoon of the new school year. We were read Ben and the Buccaneers by Joel. Joel was representing Cenovus Energy. Cenovus is a partner in Literacy and today we were sharing with them how Literature can spark many interests, questions and debates. We would like to thank Cenovus for their generous support.

Pizza with the Principal (citizenship, TRIBES)

TRIBES is a big part of our school culture. Four students were acknowledged for being exceptional TRIBE members not just in their classes but also in our school. Destin, Serena, Grace and Masen all caught being attentive listeners, showing mutual respect and doing their personal best. What a wonderful way to spend a lunch hour; getting to know four students really well. Love it!

Welcome to our Community (volunteers help our community)

Riverside School would like to thank Mr. Albano and Mrs. Rae for volunteering in our Library. This is a big task and we are very thankful for all the expert help that you are giving our community.

How do teachers do it? ( adapting for more small group time with teacher when we have large classes)

The staff at Riverside is very talented and always looking for ways to give students individual attention during math. Daily Five is one way to have students directly with teachers while other are working by with a partner (depending on the rotation). Students have fun, students learn independence, teachers give lots of formative assessment and during all this time the Students are learning Math and Language Arts.
