What a library is all about.

This year we moved the library back up to the main floor. The students have enjoyed taking books out of a bright a cheerful place. Line ups like this are not uncommon. Beth does a great job being our student librarian.
Keep Reading Riverside- it is nice to see.

Shoebox Wagons with the grade 3,4 class

Grace and Tory

Metayah, Broyce and Cody

Zack and Bethany
As told by Grace and Tory
We are making shoe box wagons. These wagons must be able to hold weights. They are going to be judged by how well they hold the weight, how fast, or how slow they go; so they have to be able to travel. This is a hard challenge because our wheels must go round and round (wheels and axels). We cannot tape the wheels onto the bottome because our axel must be able to spin.

Spelling Bee

On January 31 Riverside School held its annual Spelling Bee.
Grade 1 Champs

Grade 2 champs
The grade 1,2 and 3 used words from their own list and the grade 4,5,6 used words from the Canspell list.
The grade one's say that they did not find the words hard because they studied. We had a tie between the three grade ones and the three grade two students. The hardest word was when Ms. Hendricks tricked us and asked us to spell her name. No fair. We did not study that.

Congratulations to Shaylee was our first place winner in the Canspell Bee, she however cannot go so Tess is taking her spot.  Today Kiarra was oour winner. Congratulations to all of our students. Great work.

Destination Imagination

We held our first meeting of Destination Imagination and what fun we had. After talking about our TRIBES agreements we were put into pairs. Our Challenge; with 5 peices of newsprint and a role to tape we had to design clothing. We were being marked on Creativity of the clothing, the fit of the clothing and then just to make it interesting the least amount of tape. We had 3 minutes to make a plan and then 5 minutes to make our clothes. After that we had a fashion show for some parents that stopped by. Our parents could not come up with a winner but did comment on what they liked about our ideas. This club is all about working together to get something done but it is also about thinking about something that no one else will think of. We had to think on our feet, develop a plan and then make the plan work (follow through with our thoughts). After that Ms. Hendricks gave us another challenge. This time we did not build something but did some acting. We had to get rid of the ants, bee, and termites. The only thing that we had to make sure we included was where we were. That was the hard part. Team one got so excited with the play they did not mention the location but team two remembered the location. We are learning to pay very close attention to what the directions are. The pictures above a just a few of us getting our plan together.

The Calandar Challange by Kaitlyn and Jaidyn

We were given numbers in a bag and we needed to put them on the calandar. Jaiden said that this was hard because we needed to know the order of the numbers .  Kaitlyn was finished her work first so Ms. Nicoll let her help me (Jaiden said). We had to make sure that we had the right number under the right day. This was more fun than just writing the numbers because we had to find the numbers and then put them in the right spot. It was like a puzzle.
