K-Kids and Diversity Club



 Thanks to Ms. Ewert and Ms. Leslie Crapo from Sammis Immigration students at Riverside were treated to a Culture Cafe. This event showed how many different cultures make up the Riverside Community. New students from different countries as well as students that were born in Canada shared food that represented their culture. We were treated to food from England, Phillipines, Germany, Italy and more. Yum, Yum
Thanks for showing us that we have lots in common and letting us celebrate where we came from.

Bar graphs at Riverside. Are our questions good enough?

Grade fives were learning about data and graphing. What kinds of information can be graphed, are our questions not specific enough to give us the answer to the question that we came up with?

Ms. Raimbault and her grade 5 class are looking at the wall graph that they created. Is it good enough, do they need to develop better questions to get at the answers they are looking for?

From this day on the students had a question of the day. They were to put their picture where they fit in the graph. Students were very quick to realize that the simple questions were not good enough and reworded their questions to gather the most information.

Destination Imagination- City Challange- Elm Street School

Team one -getting ready for their Long Term Challange. They worked with Mr. Winkler and designed a structure that could move things from one place to another. Once their products were at the second station they were assembed. From their they were placed back in the  mover and taken to our other elf. The teams storyline was Christmas Eve in Santa's Workshop. There was rush happening because several new names showed up on the good kid list. The elves were busy making bookmarks and popsical stick puppets for the children. Team One won the Di Vinci medals for the team that came up with a solution to problem that was creative and out side the box.

Our machine. It is motorized  with batteries maving the wheels and a pully system that picks moves the box down so we can pick things up. Mr. Winkler was our contruction advisor. Thanks so much for all the time you gave us.

Team two getting ready for their long term challange. We did a acting one where we had to show two different cultures working together. We made up a story about the world water problem. The Russians and the British were working together  to help the United Nations solve the problem.

Destination Imagination is all about problem solving and working together. We were given challanges and the materials to solve the challange. In order to do this we needed to come up with a plan and then not change our minds. That was the hardest part.

We had a ton of fun at Elm Street School and would like to thank them for inviting us to take part in this day. Thanks for all the hard work Elm Street, you did it and in the process showed all of us about planning and working together to get something done.

Marvelous Munsch

Today Riverside pdp to grade six welcomed Elm Street School"s lower elementary student to our school. We were all treated to puppet plays of six Robert Munsch stories.

Anti- Bully Day/ Put a stop to bullying

Using our TRIBES language- No Put Downs, Use Respect, Appreciate Others, Listen Attentively. If we do this there is no bullying. We pledge to put a stop to bullying.

We celebrated this day with an Mi afternoon around friendship using TRIBES lessons, but we started this afternoon off with an old fashion sock hop. Who owns all those crazy socks. Did we ever have fun, boy can Riverside ever dance.
