Polk a Dot Day
By: Cheyanne
On Thursday, September the 19th 2013 Riverside School had a Polk a Dot Day. On Polk a Dot Day the teachers created MI groups there were a few groups. In every group there were Grade 5/6, 1s, 2s, 3s and 4s. Every classroom read and watched “The Dot”. All the groups went to different classrooms; the teachers that were in the rooms were Mrs.Nicoll, Ms.Hall, Mrs.Boschee, Mrs.Prioror and Miss.Kowalchuck. The groups did a different art project in each classroom. Some activities that we did were that we made trees with paint then we designed a paper. Then we colored a paper then we took an I pad and made it move. Then we took a cup and dipped it in paint and put it on a piece of paper then we painted the dots. Then we made dots with pom poms. These are a couple of things we did on Polk a Dot day.

On Thursday, September 19th, 2013 we had Dot Day. Dot Day is based on a book by Peter H. Reynolds called ‘The Dot’. Mrs. Nicoll, Ms. Hall, Mrs. Boschee, Mrs. Prior and Ms. Kowalchuck all had different, fun art activities all using dots. In Mrs. Nicoll’s class we traced our hands on black paper then used jars and bottle lids and paint to make Dots on our paper. The dots could be all different colors and the pictures turned out really nice. In Ms. Hall’s class we each got a piece of a circle and we could color it whatever color we wanted. We could choose from colors like green, blue, red, purple, orange, yellow and black. When we were in in Mrs. Boschee’s class we drew a picture then used the IPad’s to look at in in 3-D. we used a app on the IPad’s called colarmix. When we drew the picture we drew on a special piece of paper with a circle on it. Mrs. Prior let us make dots using pom-poms. We used paint colors like blue, yellow, green and red. She would roll 2 dice and depending on what she rolled would depend on what color we made dots with. In Ms. Kowalchuck’s classroom we made black circles then we painted the inside of the circles using water color paints. It turned out nice but sometimes people painted other peoples circles. My favorite activity was Ms. Hall’s class because we got to color and it will turn out really nice. These are a few reasons why Dot Day was so much fun.

On Thursday the Riverside School students had an MI day based on “The Dot” by Peter H. Reynolds, an amazing author. The students got into colored groups from grade 1 to 6 and we did exciting activities based on “The Dot.” It was an exciting day. My favorite activity was Miss. Hall’s .You were given a piece of paper with a black line on it. Then you would color it with every color of the rainbow and more! It was very fun. Mrs. Boshee got the iPads and downloaded an app called colAR mix. Then you would to go color a picture and then you put and iPad over top of it and then it was 3-D. it was so cool and amazing. Mrs. Nicolls activity was very fun, you had a piece of black paper and lids and you would dip the lids in paint and it made a picture of a tree. It was really cool. These are few activities that Riverside School experienced.

On Thursday we got sorted into groups with people from 6-1 right after we wacked The Dot. Then Dot Day started, first we went to Miss. Nicoll’s class. We traced our hand and arm to make a tree, then we took lids and dipped them in paint and stuck it on a page. Next we went to Miss. K’s room. Our groups got sorted into more groups then we started. We took plastic cups and dipped it in paint and doted it on a large piece of paper. Then we used water color and panted in the circles. This is how Dot Day works.
